It was October, 1994 in our yearly parish planning activity at Siena Retreat House in Novaliches that the Parish
Youth Commission was organized. Ten parish workers were chosen to man the Ad-hoc Committee that would handle the organization.
They were Arnold Nicalas, Rita Cucio, Grace Domingo, Mary Rose Galura and Neth Gratela. Our spiritual director was Rev. Fr.
Rody Cruz.
Our
parish priest then, Rev. Fr. Celerino Gregorio conceptualized the formation of the commission on youth in order to create
an organization that would mobilize the young people of Sta. Maria towards parish-oriented services. The first major Activity
of PYC was its participation in the World Youth Day in January 1995. Flores de Mayo took another form under PYC’s “Sunduan”.
True
to what Fr. Nonoy dreamt of, the seasonal participation of the youth turned to an all-year round participation in the Parish.
PYC became one of the four commissions comprising the Parish Pastoral Council.
The members came from the 14 sub-pastoral councils namely: San Gabriel, Kaybitin, Tabing Bakod, Camangyanan, Bagbaguin, Mahabang
Parang, Guyong, Lalakhan, Sta. Clara, Sta. Cruz, Manggahan, Poblacion, Patag I and II.
At
present, the commission aligned its name from the Diocesan Commission on Youth and Vicarial Commission on Youth. The commission
is now called the Parish Commission on Youth. It is now composed of 8 sPCYs (8 sub-parishes) and 2 affiliate church organization
namely: Ministry of Ushers and Usherettes and Immaculate Conception Theater and Arts (ICTA).
